The Mitochondria: Powerhouse of the cell. The mitochondrion has a double bound membrane found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells and it contains DNA. The Mitochondrion is the site of cellular respiration.
Cellular respiration is the set of the metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and then release waste products. It happens through the process of photosynthesis and then goes through a chemical reaction to produce ATP.
